After auditing 100+ programs and tracking 70 PMs through them, I keep watching smart people lose 6 months and ₹1–4L to the same three traps. Here’s what they look like — and why hiring managers I interviewed quietly discount them.
From my experience: In most cases where a PM told me a course “didn’t work”, one of the traps below was present. Learning to spot them saved the PMs I coached from ₹1L+ mistakes.
Trap 1 — Executive strategy slideware. I’ve sat through four of these end-to-end. You leave with crisp vocabulary, a transformation deck, and zero ability to write an AI PRD, design an eval, or scope a RAG feature. Of the 12 PMs I tracked through “AI for Leaders” cohorts, exactly 0 were hired into an AI PM role within 9 months on that credential alone. Polished, expensive, and — for the IC-to-Senior-PM band — practically hollow.

Trap 2 — Rebranded ML engineering. Three months of sklearn, regression, gradient descent and a thin GenAI module bolted on. I spoke to 18 PMs who finished these in 2024–25; 14 said they’d never reuse 80% of the content in their PM work. The hiring managers I interviewed at Razorpay, Swiggy and two GCCs confirmed it — they don’t want PMs who can train models, they want PMs who can pick, evaluate and ship them.

Trap 3 — Prompt-tip webinars. I’ve reviewed 30+ of these. They’re useful for your inbox and useless for shipping an AI feature to a million users. Writing a clever prompt for yourself and architecting an evaluator-grounded LLM feature are completely different skills — and only one of them shows up on the JD.
The syllabus is still centred on prompt chains, with no agents, evals or MCP — pre-2025 content sold at 2026 prices. Check the module names for GPT-5-class / Claude 4 / Gemini 2.5 era tooling; if the examples reference models that have been superseded twice, the tradeoff advice inside is stale too.
A PDF is not an artifact. Hiring managers ask you to walk through a PRD, an eval set and a cost model, not a certificate. If the course’s outcome page leads with the credential rather than the projects you leave with, assume the portfolio review round will go badly.
US-hours sessions mean Indian PMs watch recordings and lose the interactive value they paid for — mentor Q&A, peer critique, live prototyping. Confirm the IST schedule and the recording policy in writing before paying, and ask what happens to mentor access if you miss a live session.
“Placement assistance” and “AI-ready” are marketing phrases. The columns below are what I actually found when I compared course deliverables against what Indian hiring managers asked for in the portfolio round.
Look for named modules on evals, RAG decisions, agents, MCP, cost modelling and prototyping tools. If those words are missing from the module list, the course predates the job you are applying for.
A PRD, an eval set and a prototype. A serious program can share anonymised examples within a day; a marketing-led one will send a brochure instead.
Open the sample lesson and note which models and tools appear. Material that has not been refreshed since the current model generation is teaching yesterday’s tradeoffs.
LinkedIn search “[Course] AI product manager”. Ask about the IST schedule, mentor response time, and what interviewers actually asked them afterwards.
Schedule, recordings, mentor access and refund / EMI terms. Verbal assurances from a sales call are not a policy; a written reply is.
Does it take you to Level 3–4 with proof? If the honest answer is Level 2 with a certificate, price it accordingly.

I went into this research expecting a brand-name program to win. None did. The PMs I tracked who landed AI roles in 2025 weren’t the ones with the prettiest certificates — they were the ones who could open their laptop in an interview and walk a hiring manager through an AI PRD, a golden eval set, and a real cost-vs-latency tradeoff they’d made. That’s the bar. Every recommendation on this page is built backwards from it.
Strategy-only programs are too shallow for 2026 product decisions. ML engineering courses are too deep for the role you actually hold.
